We understand the constraints isolation rooms create for medical professionals entering and exiting these rooms. The Iso-Tray™ was designed to be disposable — compatible with Aseptic No-Touch Technique (ANTT) — reducing the risk of contamination by lowering the number of times phlebotomists need to enter and exit an isolation room. The easy-to-assemble tray can carry 2 blood culture tubes, 10 blood test tubes, and everything required to perform the procedure of drawing blood.

What is it?
The Iso-Tray is an easy-to-use isolation phlebotomy tray designed to help phlebotomists carry their phlebotomy supplies into an isolation room in an easy-to-use organized format.

Why would I use it?

It allows for multiple scenarios, especially when it is your first encounter with a patient. In other words, if you are not sure what you will need, take it with you.
It keeps the phlebotomy supplies from coming into contact with anything in the patient’s room. Since your tubes can be placed on the tray in an organized manner according to your order of draw, no need to have them in direct contact with the patient’s bed or nightstand.
Any extra supplies you took in with you could be left in an out-of-the-way place in the room depending on your facility's SOP.
When you are finished with the tray, you simply dispose of it in a proper biohazard container. The contaminated tray never leaves the room.

How do I carry the Iso-Tray?

If your facility provides phlebotomy trays, a couple of Iso-Trays may be slid between the dividers of your tray. Some reorganization of the supply dividers provided with your particular phlebotomy tray may be necessary.
If your facility provides phlebotomy carts, you may carry the trays in either the unfolded format as the trays are provided to you, or fold them up and have them ready to use when you get to patient room.
• Your facility may want to keep the trays on the same isolation cart outside the patient’s room where the other isolation supplies are, such as the gowns masks, and gloves. In this scenario, even though the Iso-Tray is designed for phlebotomy, nursing might also find the trays useful for some of the services that they provide at the patient bedside.

What steps do I take when arriving at an isolation room?

When arriving at an isolation room, fold up an Iso-Tray according to the instructions on what will become the Iso-Tray’s bottom.
Place tubes in the tube slots that will be needed for phlebotomy in an organized manner. The tube slots will accommodate 2 blood culture tubes on one side, and up to ten 10x75mm or 15x100mm tubes on the other. It is recommended to put them in the proper order of draw according to your facilities SOP.
Place other needed supplies such as needles, tourniquets, fingerstick supplies, alcohol pads, needle holders, gauze pads, extra tubes, etc. in the center section.
Follow your facility's infection control protocols for entering the isolation room, ie. gown, face mask hand hygiene, and gloves.
Take in the loaded Iso-Tray.
Perform the phlebotomy in accordance with your facility's SOP.
Follow your facility's infection control protocols for leaving the room.
Follow your facility's SOP for removing collected blood tubes and any other supplies, upon leaving the room.
The contaminated Iso-Tray is disposable and does not leave the room.
If your facility allows it, any unused supplies may be left on the tray and placed in an out-of-the-way area of the patient room and used upon any additional visit to that room.
